To keep a large Orphanage such as Seeds of Hope operating and ensuring
that all the children are able to thrive physically and mentally is a huge
undertaking. The financial cost of this is rather large. We invite you to telephone,
or email us to set up a visit with us. We are happy for you to learn more about us
and our needs. Any donation are appreciated and nothing is ever too small,
we are thankful for, and treasure everything we are provided with.
Our Needs
The building in which the children eat and sleep suffers from the
extreme moist climate in Bali. Mould has been, and still is an ongoing health
issue. Over the years with the help of many private donors and a number of NPO's,
Sandra and Tommy have been able to renovate both the girl's and boy’s dormitories.
However, this is a chore that needs to be repeated every few years as the mould
always reappears in spite of taking a number of preventative steps to eliminate
the problem. To solve the problem and make the building of the girl's dormitory
a safe place we really require a sealed roof built to resist the water of rainy season.
Therefore, we continue to seek funding for this form of building constructionn and maintenance.
The year of 2017 will require a large effort of fundraising for maintenance needs, as at this time
the buildings are all in dire need of maintenance.
As SoH depends on the generosity of outside donors, there is no guaranteed funding;
consequently it is impossible to have any kind of financial stability. Funds are
required on an ongoing basis for everyday and basic needs, including food, medical
costs and education. For the academic year of 2016 - 17 an International Foundation
have covered the monthly school fees. With donations collected through the last year
from friends of SoH, the annual entrance fees for all the children has also been paid
for the 2016 - 17 school year. This has been a great relief to Sandra and Tommy;
however financial assistance is still required for the many extracurricular educational
necessities that present themselves throughout the year. Also, we must look ahead
to the 2017 - 18 academic year which will be upon us very soon. It is time to plan
for the finances we will require to educate the children during the upcoming year. Graduating
students in May 2017 will be in need of sponsorship if they are to attend University. Please
contact us via email if you require information on sponsoring a University age child.
Great news!!! 2012 brought a need for a new school bus. With so many children, two buses
are required to transport the children to and from school and on any other outings. The
original second bus is now very old and is unable to be repaired. So it became imperative
that in 2012 a new 20 seater bus be purchased. Well, thanks to the enormous efforts of a great
friend of Seeds of Hope, who held fundraising events and was able to bring on board an International
Foundation with a branch in Hong Kong, we are now happy and so grateful to be able to announce
that we took delivery of our new school bus in January of 2013. Thank you to all the people
who gave of their time and money to make this dream a reality. Knowing the children will
now have a safe vehicle for transport brings a great relief for everyone at SoH.
We are truly blessed!!
After raising and saving funds, as well as the assistance of a very generous NPO, SoH was able to construct
a small building which has provided SoH with six more bedrooms. This brought great relief to be able to
have lower amounts of children sharing sleeping quarters. Over the last fifteen years SoH has outgrown
the quantity of bedrooms built in 2001 for the children. Until recently, up to 3 or 4 children may have
to share their sleeping quarters. The completion of the new rooms has provided a healthier environment
for the children to grow in.
General
To be honest, food and / or money for food and educational needs, along with assistance with
any medical costs are the most important things people can donate. However, if you are
not comfortable with cash donations but want to visit and don’t want to arrive empty handed,
please read this:
• The average age is about 12 years old (baby toys/clothes are not priorities);
• The children love music (sheet music, small radios, CD’s or even CD players);
• They also love any kind of arts and crafts, board games and sports equipment;
• English language study workbooks, simple text and even flash cards assist the
children with their English study;
• Toiletries – shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, detergent, etc. are
always needed.
